Show text limits before a visitor loses their message

A message box may stop accepting text or reject a long answer only at submission. Visitors can lose a carefully composed enquiry without understanding the restriction.

What to change

Request a clear limit where one is necessary, with remaining-space feedback that supports editing and does not silently discard pasted text.

A worked example

Illustrative example

A visitor pastes a long administrative question and sees how much must be shortened, with the full draft still available to edit.

How to check the result

Accept when the limit is known before submission, excess text is handled transparently and the visitor controls any shortening.

A mistake to avoid

Silently cutting the end of a pasted message can remove the very sentence that explains what the visitor needs.

Your action checklist

Use these checks to prepare a discussion with your team or supplier. Tick a check when you have recorded the decision or evidence, rather than when a feature has simply been promised.
