Make controls honest about when they are ready

A page can display a booking or search button before the scripts needed to operate it have loaded. Early clicks appear to do nothing, so visitors repeat the action or leave.

What to change

Ask the supplier to make visible controls usable promptly or clearly indicate their temporary loading state.

A worked example

Illustrative example

A visitor pressing Search immediately after the header appears receives a working search interaction or a clear loading state instead of an unexplained dead click.

How to check the result

Accept when initial controls behave truthfully throughout loading and failure, without inviting repeated actions that might later execute unexpectedly.

A mistake to avoid

Disabling an action visually without explaining its temporary state can still make the website appear broken to a first-time visitor.

Your action checklist

Use these checks to prepare a discussion with your team or supplier. Tick a check when you have recorded the decision or evidence, rather than when a feature has simply been promised.
