Remove errors for questions that no longer apply

Changing a choice can hide an invalid field while its error remains in the summary. Visitors are asked to fix something they can no longer reach.

What to change

Require validation to follow the current visible route through the form, including when a visitor changes an earlier answer after a failed submission.

A worked example

Illustrative example

Selecting a return call requires a number. After changing to email contact, the old missing-number error disappears and the email requirement becomes the relevant check.

How to check the result

Accept when errors always describe the current answers and reachable questions, including after several changes of direction.

A mistake to avoid

Simply hiding the red message can leave the underlying form blocked by a rule the visitor cannot see.

Your action checklist

Use these checks to prepare a discussion with your team or supplier. Tick a check when you have recorded the decision or evidence, rather than when a feature has simply been promised.
