Place focus sensibly after an item is removed

Removing a selected filter or attachment can delete the control that currently has focus. The next keyboard action may restart at the page top or affect an unexpected item.

What to change

Ask the supplier to choose a useful next focus location whenever a user removes the element they are operating.

A worked example

Illustrative example

Removing the second of three filters places focus on a nearby remaining filter. Removing the final filter returns focus to the filter chooser.

How to check the result

Accept when removal leaves the visitor oriented, with a reachable next action and an accurate account of what remains.

A mistake to avoid

Moving focus to the page heading after every small removal creates unnecessary travel and breaks the visitor's immediate task.

Your action checklist

Use these checks to prepare a discussion with your team or supplier. Tick a check when you have recorded the decision or evidence, rather than when a feature has simply been promised.
