Distinguish draft filter choices from applied results

A mobile filter drawer may show newly selected options while the result list behind it still uses old choices. Visitors cannot tell whether closing the drawer applies or discards their changes.

What to change

Choose and communicate one clear model: immediate application or an explicit Apply action with understandable cancellation.

A worked example

Illustrative example

A visitor selects two locations in a drawer and activates Apply filters. Closing through Cancel instead returns to the previously applied selection.

How to check the result

Accept when visitors can predict whether changes are active and all dismissal routes preserve or discard them consistently.

A mistake to avoid

A live result count can look like confirmation that filters are applied even when it only describes an uncommitted draft.

Your action checklist

Use these checks to prepare a discussion with your team or supplier. Tick a check when you have recorded the decision or evidence, rather than when a feature has simply been promised.
