Provide a useful route from search controls to results

After applying a search, keyboard users may need to traverse every filter again before reaching the results. Automatically moving focus can also interrupt visitors who intended to refine another option.

What to change

Agree how completed searches expose their outcome and how visitors can deliberately reach the updated result list.

A worked example

Illustrative example

A short update reports the new result count while a nearby View results action lets the visitor move directly to the updated collection when ready.

How to check the result

Accept when completion is clear and results are efficiently reachable without preventing deliberate continued use of the search controls.

A mistake to avoid

Automatically reading every result after every filter change can overwhelm the visitor instead of providing a useful transition.

Your action checklist

Use these checks to prepare a discussion with your team or supplier. Tick a check when you have recorded the decision or evidence, rather than when a feature has simply been promised.
