Separate appointment deposits from the full fee

The booking screen asks for a payment that differs from the service page price. Visitors cannot tell whether it is a deposit, the full fee or an additional charge.

What to change

Explain the relationship between the amount paid now and the total appointment fee. Check the exact wording against the practice's approved payment terms before adding examples.

A worked example

Illustrative example

An illustrative appointment costs £120 and takes a £30 deposit. The page clearly shows a £90 balance and the payment stage at which it is collected, alongside the relevant terms.

How to check the result

A visitor can calculate the total and identify what remains payable after making the booking.

A mistake to avoid

Do not label a payment as a booking fee if the practice actually treats it as part payment.

Your action checklist

Use these checks to prepare a discussion with your team or supplier. Tick a check when you have recorded the decision or evidence, rather than when a feature has simply been promised.
